Seattlewireless TV Episode 1

Posted on November 14, 2019November 14, 2019 by Ken

“I can’t imagine SWN TV episodes are still online, maybe the eons old torrents are still active?” But low and behold they are on the Internet Archive.

The first episode includes:

  • Coverage of The Personal Telco Project in Portland, OR
  • An interview with Rob Flickenger of Nocat and Pringles fame.
  • Risto Kõiva shows off how he uses wireless to get video from RC Helicopters.

Its notable that Seattlewireless TV was distributed mostly via Bitorrent which had only been in public circulation for 2 or years at this point. I find it amusing that even back in 2003 the word “cloud” was being used. It is used to describe the hot spot coverage Personal Telco has with their 100 hot spots. One last note worth thing is Risto’s comment about his dream for AI driven helicopters. This was shot in 2003 and the Stanford research for autonomous helicopters seems to come on the scene around 2004.

The world was a very different place in 2003. “6 megabit DSL backhaul”. NoCatAuth, written in perl. “At LEAST 11 Mbps”. No mention of social networks, because they didn’t exist yet. They were simpler times.
